Colored pencil on paper, 16x20in. I did this study from an image taken of Michelangelo's stunning sculpture, La Pieta. I am quite proud of how this one came out. At tthe time I was creating this drawing, I was cooking and cleaning for a group a Catholic priests in Portland, OR. When I was finished, it was hanging in their rectory office for some time. Shortly after someone expressed an interest in purchasing it form me, the person who wanted to buy it left their office job with the same priests as did my drawing. I assumed the drawing went with this person. While they did not pay me for it, I think they may have paid a heavy price by taking it from the church grounds, but God only knows. While I certainly would have preferred cash payment, I do take a certain satisfaction in knowing that my drawing was valuable enough to break one of the 10 commandments over.
Mixed media on paper, 16x20in. In Summer of 2000, I went to Guatemala for a few weeks, mostly in the town of Antigua where I studied Spanish and stayed with a Guatemala family. Rigoberta won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1992 for her work to save her people from the destruction of greedy landowners and multinational corporations who to this day exploit the indigenous people of Guatemala. Learning about Rigoberta, I was deeply moved by her and drew this in honor of her.
Mixed media on paper, 16x20in. I this face in an advertisement in an old magazine from the 1960s. I loved the image so I decided to draw it and make it my own. This was among the drawings that kept me sane during my stint teaching English at MS 254 in the Bronx, one of those toughest jobs you'll ever love experiences that I seem addicted to.

Pen and ink on paper, 16x20in. I created this during my year in New YOrk City, from a postcard I got from a visit to Cologne, Germany. The distortions that came from my rendering of the image developed into what i think is a quite effective composition and expression.

Pen and ink on paper, 16x20in. Jack is one of my favorite actors. I can think of a film role that he has had that was not interesting. I used a loose style to capture the essence I perceived in his portrayal on this character.
